I imagine him as having this amazing child like wonder. on top of that I think he would open up to Malon more than anyone else cause she, more than anyone else in the game save Saria, is a childhood friend. But even Saria is this ageless eternal being. Zelda and Ruto are princesses giving him quest but Malon is just a normal girl he was friends with. To me I see him as just picking up where he left off with her. no pressure to be the brave stoic warrior the rest of the world needs him to be.
