She’s so un-Sonic-like, she can straight-up be her own thing and no one would know!

i get what u mean, shes based on vulpix the pokemon. so her hair n tail is mostly a remnant from that.
also, for a field of reference, most of my exposure to sonic was thru the anime, sonic oc art on deviantart and archie comics, i think her design makes more sense if youre familiar with archie and their.. interesting designs.
