I wonder if any toy designers ever attempted this:

Use those joints as a bone structure while later covering it with a flexible material for the skin. This figure looks fantastic, although the tail is what’s triggering that idea in my head!

A lot of soft art dolls use a ball/socket armature similar to that, better than an elastic strung one that would need restringing after some time
