For round 2, this one’s my favorite! But why would a flexible amorphous blob transform into something that appears to have injuries or scars?

When Mimic shapeshifts, she grows a flexible membrane around herself to hold her shape. That's why she doesn't look like a slimy blob while transformed. When the membrane becomes torn or punctured (which is often) it's much faster to patch it up with tape than to grow a new one.
