Happy Easter to one and all!!

Magnificent holiday, ain’t it? Just another one of those days where you get those sugar highs every now and again if you’re not careful! Honestly, I didn’t expect to make a major post this week because progress was rather slow, but then stuff happened that eventually led me to making a major decision for OviVixen as a whole!

Leaving Clickteam and Heading to Godot!

iu_1386976_8152063.png

Some of you programmers are already thinking: fucker, why didn’t you do this sooner!? Lemme explain.

Since the late 2000s, I always wanted to buy Multimedia Fusion 2 for game development. A YouTuber claimed it was a better program than Game Maker at the time while playing a Halloween-inspired Mario Fangame. Eventually, I got the Developer version of the program and that costed me a pretty penny: so basically, I was trying to hold on to a major investment for the longest time.

I have to be honest here, Clickteam may still have my most favorite U.I in programming despite the move. It’s linear programming, but a lot of events or conditions can simply be “drag n’ drop”. Even writing code from scratch, you’ll do much less typing in Clickteam than any other program because conditions and events can be duplicated and modified with just a few clicks. It’s gonna be tough learning how Godot works, but there are plenty of reasons why I have to make such a move now.

How it started…

About more than a week ago, I was getting rather addicted to playing mobile-friendly itch.io games. The first one I played was so incredibly basic, it inspired me to make a “super quick” browser game just in time for Easter! The game wasn’t supposed to be much anyway: it was a planned to be a simple click simulation game with only one scene. So I got started with the most simple prototype on Clickteam… It wasn’t actually simple…

Clickteam Fusion, despite having my most favorite U.I, is probably the most RIGID programming engine ever! So much so, something as basic as skewing a shape requires a third party extension and a shader for it to work. How do you use them? Beats the hell outta me! It’s actually pretty tough finding proper Clickteam tutorials these days unless it’s tied to replicating popular indie games. Not only that, even if you know how to use the extensions or shaders, it’s not a guarantee that it will properly transfer over to platforms other than Windows.

So I was stuck: I have to move to another programming engine just to make this one dumb click browser game for Easter! Unity? Eat a dick! Game Maker? Requires Internet to activate every two weeks EVEN FOR THE FREE VERSION! Pygame? Even the set up gave me a headache. Scratch? …Yeah, okay. Godot…?

Godot!

All it took was one YouTube tutorial… ONE YOUTUBE TUTORIAL, to make a game that was much more functional than OviVixen Arcade!! Wasn’t even a click-based game, it was just a generic platformer using a premade library. I learned more about programming from just those few hours messing with Godot than what Clickteam could ever teach me! The layout is a bit odd: everything is called nodes as well as the game scenes and even operational commands like layering. However, unlike Clickteam, Godot is built around other platforms: I can transfer games to HTML without much issue! In fact, Godot as a whole is a fantastic entry point to game programming in general: having an asset folder with independent files including individual scripts that can be moved and duplicated away from the program itself. Sure, you have to type things manually. I even got a crash because I used a colon rather than a semicolon; nevertheless, it was still much less busywork and even bloat than my attempts with Clickteam! With this, I can actually learn C, C++, Python, and even Assembly if I’m bold enough! I can see so much potential from using only Godot… and that’s where we are now.

Moving OviVixen to Godot

After daring to look what’s behind me like in the Allegory of the Cave, I scrapped that click game and decided to bring OviVixen as a whole to Godot! The whole thing! I even fused a multitude of side projects into one straight forward plan.

First thing’s first: Rebuild OviVixen Arcade from the ground up before August!

I guarantee this version is gonna take up far less space, and will be much smoother than its Clickteam counterpart. So much so, I’m confident this will run swimmingly on browser AND be mobile-friendly as well! The Newgrounds version is gonna be cleaned up and be reposted as a fresh title, and it will even be run on Itch.io’s browser system as well. This will ultimately replace the .exe “OviVixen Emulator” currently housed here until a more proper Hub System is built down the line.

As for OviVixen Master, it’s going to be built immediately after Arcade and the planned second game in the series. However, unlike Arcade, the full version of Master will not be released as a standalone product.

OviVixen Emulator’s New System

To those of you who have actually downloaded OviVixen (18+), you’ve noticed that it doesn’t actually start in Arcade: instead, it starts in a hub where multiple games are meant to be housed with the only one currently being Arcade. This revamp is going to start similarly; however, four of the six games are going to be included AT LAUNCH rather than just the one. Not only that, there’s going to be two versions for this revamped bundle:

The Free Version: all six main games are going to be included, but nothing extra beyond that.

The Paid “Rika” Version: all six main games are included; however, they all play a major role in “The Hub” that’s a game of its very own and a rather expansive one at that! What the hub game will really be is a secret, but there are hints of it in my Newgrounds portfolio.

Further Plans

I’m still not done with everything I’m planning to do for OviVixen, but I’m gonna keep what it really is a surprise. As for my dying tablet, because I’m basically rebuilding only OviVixen Arcade’s programming and no need to revamp any of the graphics, I’m going to use my gaming laptop to make most of Arcade’s revamp. Not my favorite thing to use for game development but it’s better than nothing!

Now I’m starting to get REAL winded writing this, so I’ll close this off for now! I hope all of you had a fantastic Good Friday, and again, a Happy Easter to you all!

Boy, how quick things are heating up in the east side! I’m gonna miss the cold like always.

So anyway, here’s some OviVixen-related updates fitting for the month of Easter!

My Comic Entry for the Newgrounds Jump! Contest

Just in time, I’ve finished and posted my entry for the Newgrounds Jump! Contest on April 1st! For something this simple, it took me more than a week for a multitude of reasons. This is the reason why I’m taking a break from my work tablet this week and most of next week or else, I’ll BREAK that tablet in half! It’s seven pages; but like I said before, it’s a STUPIDLY short read!

OviVixen Style Polls are closed!

April is also the end of the OviVixen Mobile Style Poll I’ve opened in late January. I won’t say which won the poll, for that will be shown in the game’s first trailer. I’m also taking into account those who wanted to vote but weren’t able for any reason, so those who have commented about the poll will be put into consideration!

Easter Plans?

Because this month is going to be busy and expensive for me, the best thing I can do for Easter is to make a more proper printable Easter-related poster: CMYK mode, n’ all. But that, of course, is going to be started AFTER my break! Will I finish in time? Probably not, but at least I’ll get it done before April ends.

OC Card Fixing?

So fixing this odd OC card is going to be put into the back burner for a little bit. This piece is honestly not as crucial of a project as everything else I am working on. Besides, it was only meant to be used as a quick reference point for open requests and a DTiYS: something, I may barely ever search for at this time.

Continuing Hiatus… Mostly.

Once the Easter project is done, it’s back to drawing sprites. This process is gonna be rather long and arduous, followed by returning to programming. The release of anything directly related to the OviVixen games will possibly not be done this year, especially due to the conditions of my tablet. However, to those who have played the game and demo and found a few bugs here and there, feel free to tell me and I’ll fix them up as soon as I can! If the main game’s U.I seems dated, one of the things I’m going to is make a COMPLETE overhaul of the OviVixen “Emulator”: making it substantially more pleasing to see and navigate!

(Games meant for Mature Audiences)

And that’s everything! Hope you guys have a magnificent April! 🥚

FINAL NOTICE: Cast your votes in if you haven’t already! Style Poll closes at the end of March!

https://strawpoll.com/40Zm4VmDmga

How you folks doing? Did you have yourselves a swell St. Patty’s day?

So for March, I’m going to do a few things to start Spring off; unfortunately, nothing related to programming. In fact, I’m taking a break from building sprites a bit so I can do a few shorter projects for a little while.

OC Card

One of the things I’ve finished just today was an OC Card for my character “Fox Sprite”

… or I would like to say “finished”. This may need further work, but that is only AFTER I’ve finished the second short project. So what even is an OC Card? Just a very simplified character sheet meant to share during casual artist events. I find the more advanced ruler-based character sheets from this playlist are a bit too complex just to hand out.

So that is Spring Project 1.

Jump! Comic Contest

Hey, seems like the Newgrounds Jump! Comic Contest is coming in full swing! I was always curious to join in, but could never think of a good one-off until yesterday. Yep, I may participate in that contest and I already wrote the script for it after posting the OC Card. It may be seven pages long, but it’s mostly visual stuff: the average reader will finish it off in a minute! This comic should be simple enough to pull off and post before the month ends: I just have to be REAL critical with time. Yes, this one-off going be slightly more improved from my previous two comic attempts.

And that is Spring Project 2!

In conclusion… Well, Easter is on the way. Maybe I may need to do ANOTHER mini thing to celebrate that as well. Hope you guys have a great March!

Art Showcase

How you guys doing!? Since I don’t have anything to post this fortnight, I might as well share a sample of my favorite OviVixen related art done by multiple artists here on Newgrounds!

First off, I wanna show off these two pieces specifically because I find these most special compared to the rest!

I’m entirely grateful for these pieces since these were done by request rather than being commissions

  • @OneGrumpyLumpy’s piece came from an Artfight where we mutually posted OCs of each other’s characters

  • @SanyaUmbra’s piece is actually his own take on the Fox Sprite character: making her more of a D&D monster class!

  • @UrnSudden’s piece is a strange one because my shitposty ‘Tober piece was used as reference of all things!

@Sony-Shock was the first artist I ever requested a commission from! It was quite a learning experience and I’ve been improving a lot with socializing with artists and their individual quirks with commissions.

When it comes to being a client regular, I’ve always admired @Gris9’s style so much that I’ve requested multiple pieces from this guy! Here’s the two that were publicly released on Newgrounds!

But they weren’t the only artists I’ve requested commissions from! Here’s a small set of the more tame ones posted on this site!

@rosarjc has also made quite a few pieces as well and was the winner of both contests I’ve opened last year and this guy’s been progressing quite a bit!

  • This is from the Test Contest of February 2024

  • And this is from the End of Year Contest from December 2024

Speaking of those contests, there were actually two winners in each one!

  • @TomDoy was the ‘Initial’ winner of the Test Contest!

  • @Marcekun was the second winner of the End of Year Contest!

There’s more than the ones I brought up and the majority could be found on my playlists!

Warning: some pieces can be considered more suggestive than others [Mature Audiences Only]

Update?

So as for any OviVixen-related updates on my end, I’m currently working on something that will not be in a presentable state for quite a while, with progress delayed further due to my work tablet’s instability. I have plans of rectifying that, but will unfortunately take more time to do so; especially if future-proofing is considered. I apologize in advance if nothing is released for Easter or even the whole year for that matter! This “sub”-project is gonna be a big “make or break” for me!

Thank you for patience and have a wonderful Spring!

Just throwing this here in case any one of you hasn’t voted!

https://strawpoll.com/40Zm4VmDmga

So here I am, posting another OviVixen update…

iu_1351479_8152063.png

I understand many are in the dark about the point of OviVixen in general! Allow me to shed some more light on it.

OviVixen as a concept is meant to be a hypothetical universe where a crazed man who has watched too many cartoons and sexually-charged sci-fi flicks decided to enter the video game market beginning from the 80s. What you might expect to see from the series going forward is basically some of the “shock slop” from the mobile section of Vinesauce’s Commercial Chaos but uncensored, very little pulled punches, satirical, surreal, SOME levels of cohesion, and more to the point than the typical “bait” ad: all that wrapped into a series of retro-esque games. It has started off rather tame with OviVixen Arcade, but I assure you it’s going to get weirder and weirder as the series continues: even the OviVixen Master Demo gets rather odd near the end! This Fox Shortstack Woman’s many journeys are gonna be rather trippy!

But maybe you’re still lost on OviVixen as a concept. I fully understand! That’s why this year, I’m going to develop something that will provide a bucketload of information on OviVixen as a whole in the form of some “visual aid”. We all like seeing, not reading, am I right? But to produce this particular project, I have to invest a lot of my time to gain enough funds to by a new Surface Pro tablet because…

Possible Hiatus

Just today while working on sprites and palette development as well as this quick comic above, my work tablet has just degraded some more: now its maximum battery percentage is 80 percent. Not only that, its battery level keeps glitching out, making it automatically shutdown at inconsistent points. Progress was lost because of that, and there may come a point where the device may refuse to charge indefinitely! Add all that to the fact my tablet is near unusable when charging, it certain this thing’s last leg is about to break off. I’m going to TRY working on things before I save up enough for a new tablet, but work frequency is going to be far less than I initially hoped it would. Unfortunately, once that thing dies, it’s back to the waiting game like what happened last year.

OviVixen’s Future

I tell ya one thing, development of this series is gonna consist of a lot of work juggling! So much so, I don’t believe I can be able to work on anything that isn’t tied to the games themselves: even the idea for the Mobile version has to be shelved for a bit! Right now, I’m only working on sprites and palettes and already there’s some trial and error on that. But I haven’t been burnt out on it yet; again, it’s the hardware that’s burning out instead. So stay tuned! Let’s hope I got something to share in August!

Link to Strawpoll Here in case you haven’t voted!

https://strawpoll.com/40Zm4VmDmga

By golly, 2025 is kicking off right for me!

This is the first time ever a piece of mine has been brought to the frontpage, and was accepted to this year’s Pixel Day no less!

I’m also at over 300 followers, and I’m real grateful for that!

Now what is that art post exactly?

So here are two games of mine currently available on itch.

Recently, I have also shared demo videos of both games on my Twitter!

[MEANT FOR MATURE AUDIENCES]

https://x.com/ovimanicco/status/1883365090256363899?s=61

https://x.com/ovimanicco/status/1883366697949933874?s=61

Now these games are only available for PC and nowadays, not many people casually browse the net on desktop computers, including myself! So instead of sloppily porting these two games to be “tablet accessible”, I might as well make a fresh mobile/browser-friendly alternative with unique gameplay mechanics and a whole new style to boot!

That’s where you guys can get involved!

Until April 1st, a Strawpoll has been opened for the public to judge which style is best suited for this new browser OviVixen game. There are eight candidates in total, but one will be given the most focus during development; however which one is up to the public!

If you have any questions regarding the game or its potential styles, I have also made a thread relating to it right here and I will answer as much as I can without revealing too much of the actual gameplay!

https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1541818

So what’s going on until April 1st

I’m still going to relax with development until I have the funding to buy myself some new hardware. My old hardware is on its last legs, so I can’t pressure it to do much. Making those eight pieces almost felt like diffusing a bomb because at any time, my computer may decide to not work anymore just like what happened last year! So postponing development is the way to go.

Perhaps I’ll participate in Newgrounds collabs a bit more. I have thoughts to make a one-off comic strip for @DannyGoodShirt’s Jump! Comic Contest: not even to win, I just want to throw my hat into it! Also this year is Newground’s 30th Anniversary, so I would be ashamed if I didn’t do something for that!!

So that’s everything! Hope you guys have a great 2025!

What a year it has been!

Probably my most expensive year yet! So much so, I may need to cut a lot of things back for 2025 to prevent getting into the red! But it was quite the experience nonetheless. It was kind of like my “experimental year”. Thought not too substantial, there’s still some progression for me and my work as well as a few downturns as well. Let’s review them by month, shall we?

January

  • Recovering from sickness

The year started off real sour because I was recovering from a strange variation of the Whooping Cough. A lot of my family members got it and I was the last to recover. Not the best start for 2024, to be honest. Fortunately, there were some ups that month!

  • Art Gallery Collab

I’ve submitted one of my older works from 2023 as part of an Art Gallery Collab run by @Aalasteir! Possibly the first collab I ever participated!

  • Ordered Plush from Plush Poll

It was also this month where I decided to order a custom plush meant for a major contest originally meant for this year. Unfortunately, that contest didn’t come to be for a few reasons as the year went on…

iu_1327262_8152063.png

  • January Art Posts

February

  • Test Contest

My experimental year continues as I decided to make a “test” contest of sorts! Basically a contest meant to encourage those to be invested in my games even just for a few minutes. Originally intended to be one winner and a $50 prize, but this was later changed due to my poor writing describing the deadline. Before the contest, the only OviVixen characters I ever showed in the promotionals were Fox Sprite, Nu, BigNu, Rattino, Pangomalta, and Pop-Hoppy. I kept the rest of the cast hidden because I wanted players to discover the rest of the cast themselves; fortunately, this contest has helped a lot with that!

iu_1327261_8152063.png

  • Test Contest Winner

The winner for the initial contest was @TomDoy for their piece “Fox Sprite 64”!

I also brought in an Achievement award of $20 for whoever helped reveal the most or more significant characters, and that award went to @CALDM2001 for their piece “OviVixen Arcade Master Edition”!

Overall, I’d like to thank all who has participated in that contest and here’s a link where you can find all of them!

  • Post Contest Character Reveals

March

  • Post Test Contest & Winner

Because I didn’t make the deadline very clear, I extended the contest all the way to March that allows an additional winner and $50 prize money. The winner for the late entries was a Newgrounds newcomer at the time by the name of @rosarjc with this great piece!

  • Earliest Easter Imaginable

Easter should always be an April thing! No exceptions!

iu_1327263_8152063.png

  • Post Contest Character Reveals

April

  • Plush Reveal

The plush meant for the now shelved contest had arrived that month! I’ll open the contest once I get the funding for it and OviVixen as a whole gets enough traction. In the meantime, there it goes eating my art on the daily!

iu_1327264_8152063.png

May

  • Pico Day Meetup

The greatest and most dramatic experience I’ve ever been to! Never have I met this many people all at the same time! Met @TomFulp, @BrandyBuizel, and the @Pukebomb crew again as well as quite a few others too who I have met in both Pico Day and the Yestercade event a year prior. I would like to briefly thank and mentioned all who I met there: @DeadlyComics@Chourios@JoeCanvas@Malformed@Sirmi@KevSomeone@Andyl4nd@Jonas, @ninjamuffin99@EllieDoodles343@rappinawful@novaruah@Krinkels@Luis. Got stickers from @Imprez, @RavioliBox@devoidgazer, @DavidBurt, @EugeneDoesArt@BobbyBurt@ehjur@leroyalmess, @robdogdraws. Glad to have personally met @SrPelo, @Spazkid, @PhantomArcade, @TwistedGrim, @Spinalpalm, and the dudes who made Bridge Kids! It was a rather extreme day throughout and ended with an intense drive back home!

I guarantee you this, I will not go to any Pico Day meetup until I have SOMETHING to show! Whether it be an animation or a game showcase kiosk, anything to prove I’m a Newgrounder!

June

  • Life Left Turn

Crap happened that made me have to rethink my finances especially for 2025. It was that month where I had to shelve my big contest and think about further prospects outside of OviVixen. Working on the game or any art pieces weren’t exactly fun as my dying tablet was only allowing me to work on whatever for 2 hours at a time with a 3 hour charging break inbetween. Unfortunately, that was my “better” days with the tablet as the month, it decided to go “kaput”! I could no longer access the start screen and had to do some major workarounds to salvage as much as I can from it. I didn’t realize how much I have truly lost until long after I factory resetted the device.

  • Unexpected Gift #1

It wasn’t all clouds n’ storms in June! @rosarjc gave me my first OviVixen Fanart! I’m very grateful for that!

July

  • Unexpected Gift #2

Just as when I thought I would only get one fanart ever, here comes @LobsterMango with their piece “Reply Guy”! That really put a smile on my face!

  • A100 Interview

A lot of “ups” in July as @Aalasteir invited me for an interview talking about a wide multitude of topics as well as anything OviVixen related as well as the Pico Day event! Thanks, man, for having me on!

  • Factory Resetting Tablet

It was also around that month where I had to bite the bullet and factory reset my “dead” Surface tablet. It was back up and I returned to drawing; however, its poor battery still makes working on it a complete drag. Stupid thing even went back to inaccurately reading its battery thus spontaneously shutting down after reaching 50%!

  • July Art Posts

August

  • OviVixen Anniversary

Despite August being a significant month for OviVixen, because of the drama I had with the tablet, I didn’t have much to show for that month. Maybe next August, I’ll reveal something much more significant!

  • Clocks of BBS

I also participated in a collab run by @Little-Rena. It wasn’t too big of a role, but I had doing it! Thank you for accepting my submission!

  • August Art Posts

September

  • Start of the Twelve Hypotheticals

OviVixen-related dreams started showing up which motivated me to do some nonsense! First, I dabbled with Blender and made a few models: not the best models out there, but definitely improvements from the last time I touched that program. This was also the start of the Twelve Hypotheticals thing I wanted to do on a casual basis, and it all started with this character!

  • September Art Posts

October

  • Happy Halloween!

Didn’t do much this month because I got sick again with a similar illness I got last December, and the symptoms lasted just long too!

iu_1327268_8152063.png

  • October Art Post

November

  • Music Overhaul

I didn’t want to end this year offering nothing, so I decided in December to run a slightly bigger contest similar to the Test Contest from February. But first, I had to do some major tweaks for the OviVixen games as a whole! I always wanted to overhaul OviVixen Arcade’s whole soundtrack, and it was this month when I actually did it! Three of the songs are actually posted here on Newgrounds as standalone audio!

The three songs all make their debut in the most recent update of OviVixen Arcade!

  • November Art Posts

  • Special Thanks to the Following:

@SanyaUmbra for your interpretation of Fox Sprite!

@UrnSudden for using Fox Sprite to help with your 3D modeling!

December

  • OviVixen Updates

It was the start of December where I updated Arcade and Master! Arcade with the music overhaul and slight gameplay improvement, and Master with some major bug fixes. Both fully downloadable on Itch.io!

  • OviVixen EoY Contest

This contest was basically the “Test” contest but with double the timeframe and prize money. It’s now closed but the winners will not be revealed until last five minutes of today EST: basically when Newgrounds is about to hit 2025! The two winners will receive $100 each as a kickstart for their new years.

iu_1327269_8152063.png

  • BBS Tankmas Special

As one of many top-offs, I’ve also participated in one of @Aalasteir’s final collabs of the year! A rather silly one, I might add!

  • Character Reveals

Conclusion

Again, it was quite a wild ride! It has got me thinking of more important matters for 2025. So much so, it has me considering a bit of a hiatus until I get things in line. But enough of those thoughts! Today is for celebration! I wish all of you a very happy new year!
