The interview I had with @Aalasteir has been done and set to release as part of his A100 series on July 18th. It was a fine talk; however, I really need to get familiar with talking through a microphone, especially when communicating with people online. All nā all, I need to get better with communication altogether, but we all have to start somewhere, am I right?
OviVixen Shop
Possibly the only OviVixen-related update for the summer is the development of an OviVixen shop planned to be opened the same day as the release of the A100 interview. It will start small, however: the first of few products will be a set of 4K digital wallpapers of splash scenes that involves the Fox Sprite fighting a boss from OviVixen Master. Three in total and they were all done by Newgrounds Artist @GRIS9! Fantastic works! If you love these following pieces, you will definitely love these posters! Although, these do spoil the encounters of the current three bosses of OviVixen; so play the game while you still can! š±
If the turnout is greater than expected, Iāll add more to the shop once I regain the tools to be able to do so. Stickers and posters are definitely on the table! If things go right enough that Iāll be able to update OviVixen Arcade and Master once again before August hits, then something Iāve been planning for the whole year might come to fruition!
And thatās all, so get your barbecues ready because we all grillinā tonight! š
Very excited to start talking and answering questions from you guys!
As for OviVixen-related news:
On July 18th, I will be opening something in conjunction with the release of my A100 interview. Something small to start funding for the OviVixen franchise: mostly to resume development for OviVixen Master. Thereās also a big side project Iāve been planning that can fit snugly into Newgrounds Movies Portal! But first, I need to get me a new PC tablet before Iām able to do any of it, so funding is currently on my mind right now.
So hopefully, the interview goes well and Iām very excited to continue production for everything OviVixen!
Yep, the Windows Surface Pro 2 that I had for over 10 years has finally bit the bullet. This is the tablet that I use to make both OviVixen Arcade and Master and throughout most of last year, signs of its inevitable demise was rearing their ugly heads.
The tabletās original charging cord died: got it replaced with a 3rd party one.
The final update I had from Windows for 8.1 turned the tablet into a battery moron! It will assume 0% of battery life is actually 50% of battery life and it will spontaneously shut off upon reaching its assumed 50%.
It cannot charge anymore without a workaround. The charging cord has an extra USB port and the tablet needed both the initial charging connection and a USB connection to charge at the same time.
I can no longer use the tablet while it was charging. I have to allow it to charge for over 2 and half hours before I decide to risk running it again.
It was the same song and dance and it has really demotivated me from continuing with any of my projects. Tonight was when the unfortunate happened and something in the tablet prevented it from turning on properly. It first stayed stuck on the BIOS (TPM) screen and refused to leave it no matter how many times I restarted it. Eventually, I managed to get just the Automatic Repair menu to turn; but beyond that, the OS refuses to progress to the User Screen. In a slight glimmer of hope, Iāve managed to find a way to salvage the majority of my files into a flash drive from the Troubleshooting Menu.
Now itās here that I say rest in peace to this wonky but trustworthy device of mine. I wouldnāt know how I wouldāve progressed with anything art related without it! So because of its unfortunate end, I decided to put OviVixen development on hiatus until I managed to save up enough money for a new Surface and a better one at that! I have an idea of selling a set of digital wallpapers that I have been saving up for quite a while, but Iām not sure if itās worth the effort to set up shop. If things go more than smoothly, Iāll get a tablet and resume OviVixen production by the end of August.
@Imprez, @RavioliBox, @devoidgazer, SpiderMan was handing stickers also but I forgot to ask for his signature to figure out his true identity, Someone handed out Madness 2-sticker sets but I canāt recall their handle, @DavidBurt, Malformed and JoeCanvas also gave stickers with the signature, @EugeneDoesArt, I wasnāt the only one handing sticker sheets as DeadlyComics were also handing sheets, @BobbyBurt, @ehjur, @leroyalmess, @robdogdraws, and I believe thatās all in regards to just stickers.
@Pukebomb had a whole booth selling DVDs, free stickers, and a table with Dino Time playable! Got the DVD and sticker, but I only score 7 on the game. Sad, I know.
@GirZiggler was handing out CDs and Iāve managed to get one.
Iāve gotten a few posters from the entry booth and also bought a set of Newgrounds Trading Cards. Didnāt bother trading them because I was fortunate enough to get a @SrPelo card, more on him later.
You know what? More on him now! He was one of quite a few people I spoke to over there and I was pleasantly surprised they arrived. We talked for a bit and I gotā¦ a rather awkward selfie with him where my face wasnāt right at all due to the shock of the dang auto-flash in my new phone!
Met @TomFulp again and got a selfie with him: just something I want to share with my folks.
@MalFormed and I reminisced about a user suddenly went *poof* much to both of our surprise!
To my surprise, I get to meet with @TwistedGrim and we talked for a bit: handed him a sticker sheet in the end.
The dudes who makes the Bridge Kids series, @Nihaho and Will Sawikin, I had the fortune to get signatures from!
Spoke with @Spinalpalm for a bit and also got his signature!
All of a sudden, freakinā @Spazkid showed up and I managed to get a signature from him and also handed him my last sticker sheet! Sorry, Cory. That was unfortunately one of two sticker sheets that was missing one which was one of the coins in the gameā¦
And finally, I got a sketch from @PhantomArcade showing Mario getting eaten by a Piranha Plant. Because I was familiar with the Slightly Artistic series, I thought he was drawing the Piranha Plant doing something else to Mario: which, in turn, reminded me of this.
Overall, it was a great experience, but boy was it exhausting being surrounded by so many people! It was the weirdest formation of a gathering I have ever seen.
You see how empty is this theater? I guarantee everyone who arrived at the Pico Day event couldāve filled this theater, and most were right behind me on the other half of the room when I took this picture! It was a sight to behold.
Well that was a fine day! Thanks, @BrandyBuizel, for organizing this event and maybe next time Iāll join Pico Day with something greater planned besides more sticker sheets!
How dumb I would be not posting anything here on this great celebration of Spring!
So April, thereās going to be a few small things to note! My apologies thereās much I can offer this month.
OviVixen Game Updates
Iāve mentioned before that thereās gonna be an audio overhaul for both versions of OviVixen Arcade. Iām also gonna be fixing a few more bugs for the OviVixen Master demo. In addition to that, thereās gonna be some minor edits to some of the audio from Master to make it a little more pleasing to the ear.
Upcoming OviVixen Art Contest
Also a prior mention, I was planning a much greater contest after the results of the Test Contest done in February. Unfortunately, it wouldnāt be as big as I initially intended. One thing that remains constant is one of the prizes for the first place winner being a plush toy. Iām still waiting for the production of that toy and I will reveal the prize two weeks before I officially announce the contest. Thereās still going to be 2nd and 3rd cash prizes, so thereās still a much greater chance to win in this upcoming contest than the earlier Test Contest. Hope you guys are able to participate!
Thank you guys so much for following! I really appreciate it!
Honestly, Iām awfully anxious to start so letās get on with the news!!
OviVixen Arcade Newgrounds Edition Update!!
A rather small update but major at the same time! After all these years, Iāve FINALLY implemented medals to the game! These medals were supposed to be available since launch; however, quite a few snags completely demotivated me from making them ever functionalā¦ until this month!! Major plans are going on with this series that I must fix up this dusty game before I reveal it. Now the game has something thatās worth beating from beginning to end! To artists who are interested in this series, I highly recommend you aim for those medals because they may help you for another event that has opened today!
OviVixen Test Contest ($50 Prize)
A simple contest where the hero of OviVixen encounters a friend or foe from her own adventures! The contest starts today and ends the exact morning of March 4th EST. Thereās a rogueās gallery of colorful characters besides Nu, Rattino, and Pop-Hoppy that are just ITCHINā to make their debut in this contest!
Something that I just have to fix regarding both the Windows and Newgrounds version of OviVixen is to both compress the sound to provide less space AND compose better and cleaner music for it. After the Master Demo, Iām getting more and more confident in music composition that Iām a little embarrassed of the songs Iāve made for the original game.
So the next possible update for the OviVixen games will be a complete audio fix for Arcade. As for Master, there are some hiccups that are reducing the development time of that game: mostly regarding dying hardware.
Upcoming Contest in April
The OviVixen Test Contest is true to its name: itās a test for a much bigger contest planned RIGHT AFTER Easter Sunday! Can you believe it? A March Easter! Unfortunately, I canāt have everything ready until then, so might as well post it the month Easter is usually home to. How big the April contest will be dependent on how well the recent Test Contest goes, so artists who are interested shouldnāt sleep on the this test if they want an opportunity for better and bigger prizes from the REAL contest!
Again, thank you all for following! I wish you all the best rest of February and any potential participants the best of luck!
Hope you guys are having the holiday of a lifetime! This year was quite a hectic yet awesome and productive year for me and I hope it has been the best for you! Now on to the news!
This update has made a few but significant tweaks. I must thank @Chdonga for the input!
The Fox Spriteās tailspin hitbox has been overhauled
Originally, the hitbox is only present where the tail is to the left or right during the spin, leaving the Sprite vulnerable 50% of the time. During the spin, if the Spriteās tail is to the right, sheās also vulnerable to enemies coming from the left, and the opposite is true. This update makes the sprite spin faster visually, but now the hitbox remains present on both sides until the attack ends. Hope this makes the first world a little easier for new players!
There was a glitch that made the Sprite climb indefinitely regardless if sheās still climbing vines or gates. Itās not a very advantageous glitch either: it leaves her locked to only climbing left or right. This has been fixed in this update!
For 2024, Iām planning an art contest and the grand prize is a plush of one these guys! However, I love them all too much to pick, so now theyāre in a race to see who will have the honor to manifest into a prized plush toy! Just click the link above the image and make a vote. Even if you havenāt played the game, you can still vote based on their looks alone. Here are some sources on the enemies themselves!
Nu
Rattino
Pop-Hoppy
Some important things to note!
This contest is meant for Newgrounds users only: if you wish to participate, you might want to sign up here. Itās free!
This contest is meant for Mature Audiences! No exceptions!
Poll ends on January 5th, 2024
And I believe thatās all there is to share! I hope you guys have a wonderful New Year!
That was quite a blast! Met a few folks, played a few multiplayer games, got a few signatures, talked with Tom, and managed to give away a few of my sticker sheets! Something that I was amazed by upon entering this arcade is the Super Nintendo Arcade Machine that includes my favorite game of all time, Super Mario World!
Controlling this game was rather awkward, but I got the hang of it upon my second playthrough. Initially, I played it like a keyboard which was definitely not fun in hindsight. I played a few other cabinets, but I did not have much of a connection with those games compared to this one.
My most memorable moment was playing GameCube games with three other guys: Double Dash, Melee, and finally WarioWare. It was fun, but I wished the input responses wasnāt so delayed: it was most notable in Melee. The audacity of those three trying to gang-up on my poor Yoshi with their Game & Watches, those paleophobic bastards!
Forgive me for not remembering your names, I was trying so hard to get my awkward ass to get in on a few conversations that I keep forgetting to look at the name of who I was talking to. I definitely remember that one guy who wore a kidās outfit with overalls and a propeller beanie: carrying around those giant lollipops that I once tried before and find them nasty.
Will I ever join another meetup? Not until my work actually gains enough traction that it can pay for my trips. The whole trip was real expensive for just the one day and I was only there at the meet-up for about six hours before it got dark. Was there long enough for the group photo shoot, fortunately! Thanks, @BrandyBuizel, for setting up this gathering and I hope one day, Iāll see you guys again soon!
