So on October 13th, there’s going to be a Newgrounds gathering in New Jersey set up by @BrandyBuizel. This is the first time I have ever arrived at a meet-up before, so forgive me if I don’t make the most graceful entrance there. Now, one of the things suggested by the post is to “bring a sketchbook” so everyone there can draw doodles in each other’s pages as mementos. I have to be honest here, it’s been YEARS since I ever drew on paper: I got a little too cozy with my tablet and the mirror featured that it’s hard for me to get back to it. However, I do have an idea as to what I should give to you guys on the meetup!

OviVixen Sticker Sheets!

Maybe as either sample sizes or full pages like this one, I will hand out sheets of these to those who want them. Granted, this lil’ franchise is still meant for mature audiences, so I have to be very selective on who gets them. If anyone planning this meetup objects to these sticker hand-outs in any way, please let me know!

Regardless if I do or don’t bring anything, I can’t wait to meet with you guys there!

Finally, after so long, I manage to complete my next game's... demo. Sure, it's not much to gawk at, but at least I'm releasing something to showcase to the public!

Important things to note:

OviVixen Master is going to be the third game in the OviVixen series: bundled together with Arcade and a second one labeled "Home". The full version will hopefully come out in August next year and even MORE hopefully, a fourth game coming in September. This is just one step but quite a step indeed!

Unfortunately, I was unable to convert this into a browser game because the conversion was so poor to the point of being unplayable and unfixable. Damn it, I really wanted to put this game here! Fortunately is runs so smoothly on my half a decade computer! Fresh 60 frames!

I'm going to take a break for September, and in October, I'm developing a neat little promotional to celebrate the release of this demo! This promotional is going to be a future donation incentive for Master in particular, so be on the lookout for that! I'm also planning a little something in April that's exclusive for you guys on Newgrounds. It's up in the air now, but I'm certain I will finalize everything before the month starts.

Also in October, I'll update OviVixen Emulator once more to completely overhaul the audio from OviVixen Arcade, with better music and converting all audio from .wav to .mp3. Getting rid of some of that nasty megabyte fat before I release the full versions of Home and Master!

Hey, I hope you guys are having a great summer! As for me, I’m still developing the demo for my next title for the OviVixen series! So far, the following is complete:

• All enemies, the three demo bosses, NPCs and their dialogue, and asset functionality are complete. It’s safe to say the game’s now in Alpha… or at least “Alpha” for one dude with a dying tablet.
• Two of the three levels have been completed. The third and final one in the demo is now in the works.

After the third level is fully built, the following will then be worked on.

• Transitional phases: Company Intro, Title Screen, Level Complete, and Demo End
• Controller Mapping Options: similar to how it was implemented in OviVixen Arcade Newgrounds Addition
• Audio: yeah, the game has been and still will have no sound or music until this point
• HTML conversion: that’s going to be a pain in the ass!
• IF LUCKY 🙏, Newgrounds API implementation: yes, I know how they work now!

Although, I can borrow sounds I made before for the demo, Music, however can be quite the tall order! I need these tracks made before release:

• Opening Jingle
• Title Theme
• The level themes of 1, 2, and 3: 2 and 3 have two versions of themselves
• An NPC theme
• A Miniboss theme
• An Enemy theme
• Two Boss themes
• Level Complete Jingle
• Demo Closing Theme: might borrow a song played in OviVixen Arcade

If by any chance I’ve managed to get the demo done in a playable state before the end of August, yet I don’t make it to the HTML phase, then I’ll release it on itch as a standalone executable. August is an important month for this game, so passing it will break its release date… again! Unfortunately, I cannot put as much pressure on my work tablet as I did years ago because it’s a miracle that it’s still able to charge after its charging port decided to no longer accept working without greater assistance with a USB cord! I can’t even use it when it’s charging, and I dread using the tablet twice in the same day! God, I hope I get this done before September! 🙏

And I still got nothin’ as per usual. Let me at least give you a quick rundown of what I have been doing in terms of game development. There’s quite enough done that I’m able to make full on levels with what I have; however, there are still quite a few bugs that needs to be ironed out. Also, there needs to be some more coding for transitions between levels and rooms as well as a dialogue tree for some NPCs. As I mentioned before, with the risk of a dying workstation, I have to limit my work time to at least 2.5 hours a day; so unfortunately, I can’t work as much as I used to. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, I get it done before the end of April.

I finally hit 10K on “reviewing” stuff on Newgrounds! Why the quotes? Because 9 times out 10 is just me being cheeky and that’s it. But I noticed that I have been favoriting less than reviewing, so to make up for it, I’m taking a vow of silence and no longer reviewing anything until the favorites reaches 10K as well. Honestly, I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders since now I can save some mental energy whilst preparing the looming deadline know as EASTER.

Game Updates?

After the completion of the three bosses, the game is going “smoother” than ever before. Unfortunately, the tablet where I do all of my multimedia work including programming is reaching its last legs. Now instead of using the device for more than 6 hours a day, it must now be 2.5 hours at most and it requires to be charged once it’s done: it sadly cannot be used while it’s charging. The tablet battery life is so fragile, that it actually corrupted a build of my game despite still having some juice in it: all because I decided to charge it while it’s still on. But enough about that, I’m getting off track!

I regards to the game, I’m currently building its infrastructure: mostly how levels and the objects in said levels should load, unload, and the values that should be transferred between these states. After infrastructure is the following:

• Level Layout Design
• Text Blitting
• Audio
• Ending Sequence

Would I make it before Easter?… Eh, probably not, but I’m hoping to make it before the end of April at least!

Quite a goal achieved, indeed! Biggest following I’ve had compared to any other social media site with Itch taking second and I couldn’t be happier about it! And now for updates to celebrate this occasion!

Update (November 7, 2022)

Autumn has been a rather hectic season for me: travel, work, appointments, the works! So unfortunately, I was unable to work much on the demo for the recent installment of the OviVixen series. So far the following are completed in regards to what’s necessary in the demo:

• The player is fully functional
• The majority of environmental assets is working as intended
• The majority of items are functional
• All required enemies and mini bosses are working
• 2 of 3 required bosses are completed with the final needing special functions over the previous two.

Even with all on the list done, there’s still a LONG ways to go: sound design and music is the LAST on the big list.

OviVixen Arcade also needs some updating! There needs to be a small graphical change and the music needs some reworking. In hindsight, the instruments I used are not very good and I might need to use a tracker to make a better soundtrack. Also, some songs need a complete overhaul: mostly World 1, 4, and 5’s music. This update is going to be applied at the same time as the release of the next game’s demo: this includes the reapplication of the medals that were supposed to be fully functional upon the game’s initial release.

Upcoming Game

This piece here is meant as a teaser for the next game in my OviVixen series. Created by the talented Funky_Pepe, his works are greatly inspired by the splash art from that popular RTS that had a show rather recently. Fantastic paint strokes and smooth shading: go and check his work out!

As for the game itself, a demo of it was meant to be released today; unfortunately, game development and deadlines aren’t the best of friends… 

This demo is going to be exclusive to Newgrounds. I finally got the hang of the site’s API, so I want to use it in full swing! 

The full game, however, is going to be released as an update for OviVixen on Itch.io: hopefully, in late August.

If you still want to play something for that Easter kick, OviVixen Arcade is still available for download on OviVixen’s page, or you can compete for the high score in the browser version on Newgrounds.

Beautiful! I hit the big Five-Oh here on Newgrounds! A big landmark for me, and I’m more than thankful.

Although I may not post much, I’m still glad to participate with this site in anyway I can. Hey, I’m celebrating Easter here and Itch rather than Twitter or Facebook: that’s gotta be something, right?

So after work, I decided to play my own game just because to see how far I can get on it. I successfully passed the 20,000 score mark (The default score to pass to get some small rewards) in the OviVixen Arcade executable version. It was then I noticed a programming overlook that didn't make it as celebratory as it should, so I decided to dive into the files ONE LAST TIME to find the error. It should be working by now!

Perhaps every Wednesday after work, I will just play a round just for shits and giggles. Of course, they are in-between my other important duties such as making that OTHER game! I'll get on it, I'll get on it.... right after bed!
